Having scored six films for French director Claire Denis over the past 15 years, the most recent being 2014’s Bastards, English alt rock group Tindersticks are always worth keeping an eye on. On 22 January via City Slang, the band will release ‘The Waiting Room’, an ambitious collaborative film project where each track is accompanied by a short film, to be toured with a series of live cine-film events.
The idea was created in conjunction with the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and its chief organiser, Calmin Borel, whose vast knowledge of short film coupled with Tindersticks’ distinct aesthetic sensibilities became a strong foundation for the concept. Specific filmmakers were approached, each with a different song from the album, resulting in a varied collection of styles and techniques that are a perfect foil to frontman Stuart Staples’ intimate relationship with the songs.
Watch/listen to an exclusive stream of the album below and look out for Tindersticks on their accompanying tour in the following cities:
22 January – Rough Trade East, London (screening + acoustic performance + Q&A)
29 April – Barbican, London
30 April – Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry

2 May – Bridgewater Hall, Manchester
3 May – Usher Hall, Edinburgh

French master Claire Denis gets seedy and sinister with an extraordinary modern riff on the classic noir thriller.
