It’s fair to say that Kingsman: The Secret Service surprised quite a few people – for better and for worse. We happened to find its in-your-face brand of comic book humour rather endearing, so it’s with some excitement and a mild sense of trepidation that we await director Matthew Vaughn’s follow-up.
Again written Jane Goldman and Vaughn, and based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ ‘The Secret Service’, this sequel sees Taron Egerton’s “Eggsy” discover an allied super-spy organisation named Statesmen, which counts Channing Tatum among its clandestine recruits.
Together, Eggsy and “Agent Tequila” set about attempting to save the world from some vague international terror threat following the destruction of Kingsman HQ. Which is a welcome message of solidarity given Britain’s current diplomatic situation.
And that’s about all we’re able to discern from this blistering first trailer, which effectively sets the tone without spoiling any of the key story details – all while teasing supporting roles from Julianne Moore, Halle Berry and Jeff Bridges. “I hope you’re ready for what comes next.” We sure better be…
