It’s been almost three years since director Steven Soderbergh announced his return to feature filmmaking, and now the first official trailer for Logan Lucky has finally arrived. It was well worth the long wait.
Channing Tatum and Adam Driver star as blue-collar brothers Jimmy and Clyde Logan, who together cook up a harebrained scheme to rob a local NASCAR event. To help them pull off the heist they enlist the services of a notorious local crook named Joe Bang, played by a bleach-blonde Daniel Craig, who clearly relished the opportunity to adopt a Deep South lilt.
Judging by this rollicking early teaser, the film shares its crime caper tone with several of Soderbergh’s earlier works, most notably Ocean’s 11 and The Informant!, although it’s interesting to note that the story comes via first-time Soderbergh collaborator and debut screenwriter Rebecca Blunt.
Katherine Waterston, Seth MacFarlane, Riley Keough, Katie Holmes and Hilary Swank complete the star-studded cast, with the film set for release August 2017.
