If you’ve been a regular listener to our Truth & Movies podcast over the years, then we’ve got some exciting news for you. We’ve teamed up with the good folk at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA) for a brand new limited podcast series called British Indie Film Club, hosted by Leila Latif and Karis Aldridge.

As you may have discerned from the title, the show is all about celebrating the past, present and future of independent British cinema. Specifically, we’re looking back over the last 25 years of British film to coincide with BIFA’s anniversary. Each episode, we’ll be asking a special guest from the world of British film to pick a film from the BIFA archives to discuss – and we’ll also learn about their own career in film.

In the first episode, we sit down with award-winning actor, writer and director Samantha Morton, recipient of BIFA’s 2022 Richard Harris Award, which recognises an Outstanding Contribution by an Actor. She tells us all about breaking into the industry, and why she loves Ken Loach’s stirring social drama from 1994, Ladybird Ladybird.

In other independent film news, BIFA has just today announced its key dates for 2023. Entries are open now for short films and will open in early July for features. The 2023 nominations will be announced on Thursday 2 November and the ceremony will take place on Sunday 3 December.
