Earlier this year it was announced that director Steven Spielberg is working on a political drama about the Washington Post’s role in publishing the highly controversial Pentagon Papers in 1971. Previously titled The Post, the film has a new title – and an incredible cast list to boot.
Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep were already signed on to the project, but now Spielberg has added a host of name character actors including Alison Brie, Carrie Coon, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Tracy Letts, Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford and Zach Woods.
The Papers is set to follow journalists Kay Graham and Ben Bradlee, who were instrumental in releasing these leaked documents to the public, taking on the Nixon administration and challenging the denial of their First Amendment rights.
Filming is set to commence soon, with a 12 January release date tentatively pencilled by 20th Century Fox. In the meantime Spielberg will continue putting the finishing touches on Ready Player One, his upcoming sci-fi thriller starring Ben Mendelsohn, TJ Miller and Simon Pegg.
