Known for its piercing theme tune and ominous introductory monologues, as well as some truly creepy storylines, The Twilight Zone originally ran for five seasons between 1959 and 1964, but has had a lasting impact on both television and cinema across sci-fi, fantasy and horror, inspiring everything from Mars Attacks! and The Simpsons to Black Mirror and Inside No. 9.
Since it first aired in 1959 The Twilight Zone has achieved iconic television status and spawned literature, games, and a 1983 Spielberg-produced film. This winter the acclaimed CBS television series lands on stage for the first time in its history at the Almeida Theatre, running from 5 December 2017 until 27 January 2018. To celebrate this extraordinary new production, we’re setting a challenge based around one of the most influential sci-fi shows to have ever aired. For this brief, we’d like you to create an alternative poster for the Almeida’s upcoming production of The Twilight Zone. Your design should focus on the theme of ‘Dimension of Imagination’ and take inspiration from the original TV show’s distinctive visual style. It must feature at least one of the iconic images associated with the show, such as a door in space, a vintage television, a floating eye, spinning clocks or a monochrome spiral – but as this is a new stage production, please avoid using specific characters or actors from the original TV series. We’ve included a selection of reference images and a clip of the show’s eerie opening credits below to help spark your imagination.
The winner will receive two tickets to see The Twilight Zone at the Almeida Theatre, a programme, two drinks in the Almeida café bar, plus a one-year subscription to LWLies magazine. The winning entry will be chosen by LWLies and the Almeida Theatre.
All entries must be produced at A4 portrait (210 x 297 mm) size. Submit your design with the subject line ‘Almeida Twilight Zone creative brief’ competitions@tcolondon.com. The deadline for entries is midnight on Monday 20 November.
Please remember to include your full name so we know who to credit. You can also send us your entry via Twitter or Instagram by tagging @LWLies, but be sure to email us a hi-res version of your entry as well. Good luck!
