Claire Denis and Barry Jenkins will present their latest work when the festival kicks off on 6 September.
Following last week’s announcement that Damien Chazelle’s First Man will open the 75th Venice Film Festival, the Toronto International Film Festival has confirmed a flurry of exciting new features for their upcoming 43rd edition.
Claire Denis’ hotly-anticipated High Life, starring Robert Pattinson, and Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight follow-up, If Beale Street Could Talk, are among the main gala highlights, along with the latest works from Olivier Assayas, Michael Winterbottom, Mia Hansen-Løve, Jason Reitman, László Nemes, Yimou Zhang, Jacques Audiard and David Lowery.
Felix Van Groeningen’s English-language debut, Beautiful Boy, is also in this year’s line-up, which star Timothée Chalamet hinted at yesterday on Twitter, while First Man and Steve McQueen’s Widows round out the impressive programme.
The festival opens on 6 September with Patricia Rozema’s Mouthpiece, while Hirokazu Koreeda’s Palme d’Or winning Shoplifters closes proceedings 10 days later. A handful of other Cannes titles, including Paul Dano’s directorial debut, Wildlife, and Paweł Pawlikowski’s Cold War will also screen.
Borg/McEnroe opened last year’s festival, which saw Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri take home the festival’s highest honour, the People’s Choice Award.
