Long may Arrow Films’ ongoing commitment to releasing epic, multi-disc, “difficult” Japanese-language epics continue apace. In 2015 they dropped the long lost Love + Anarchism box set on an unsuspecting public, and since then have released a Stray Cat Rock collection and announced a gigantic Battles Without Honour and Humanity Blu-ray set, which is en route for late 2016.
Also on the docket is a plush, BR release of Masaki Kobayashi’s The Human Condition trilogy, chronicling the relentless struggles of life in World War Two-era Japan. A dizzying epic of social and political upheaval and its effect on the individual, this stunning new trailer offers a small taster of the director’s lacerating cinematic vision.
The Human Condition trilogy is released on 19 September 2016.
