It’s kinda strange to be extremely excited about a new trailer for a Jean-Luc Godard film, but here we are. The Image Book is the sinuous, playfully inscrutable and wholly original new work from the French icon, and it’s coming to a cinema near you on 2 December before heading onto MUBI the following day, just in time to celebrate the director’s birthday – he’s 88 years young.
The film is yet another example of JLG’s passion for adapting and enhancing the very grammar and syntax of cinema to prove that this is a medium remains very much in its infancy. He draws on horror and poetry, literary sloganeering and heartfelt confession, emotion and confusion, all at the service of a work that needs to be ingested and contemplated.
We’re very proud to be premiering the brand new trailer for The Image Book, which you can watch in full below.
The Image Book is in cinemas for one night only on 2 December, and on MUBI from 3 December. Find a screening near you at imagebook.mubi.com
